The Animal Parade

Dolev Mor / Pardes

Ari, 40, is at a fateful crossroads in his life: his relationship with his partner, Uri, is falling apart, he has reached complete exhaustion at work, and Oliver, his cat, suffers from frequent choking attacks. Ari's complex situation requires him to grapple with the past and internalized homophobia, and in the process, engage in a violent internal conflict with the gay community, to which he has never felt a sense of belonging or closeness.

'The March of the Beasts' is an unusual and bloody novel – which is also a statement of opinion on the gay community and society as a whole. In rhythmic and hypnotic language, Dolev Mor examines the mechanisms of same-sex relationships and the mechanisms of human repression, delves into the intricacies of society's binary sexual definitions, challenges them and traditional family structures, and cries out about the violence and loneliness that exist in the gay community and beyond.

Dolev Mor (1984) is a writer and television program editor, a graduate of the Tel Aviv University School of Film and Television. 'March of the Animals' is his second book. It was preceded by the novel 'Saving the Polar Bears' (Schoken, 2021), which received rave reviews, was included in Haaretz's "50 Best Books of 2021" list, and won him the Minister of Culture's Award for Emerging Writers for 2022.
