Rintaro Natsuki is a shy high school student who lives with his grandfather, who owns an old used bookstore. The store, with its shelves full of books that reach up to the ceiling, serves as a refuge for Rintaro and he spends hours there. When his grandfather suddenly passes away, Rintaro is left alone in the store and fears that he will have to close it. But one day a talking cat appears in the store, and everything changes...
